War Of The Roses Gameplay Walkthrough Shows Failed Crossbowman

Fatshark's upcoming medieval action game, War of the Roses, has been receiving quite a bit of positive press lately. The game has become quite anticipated given its unique take on combat and PvP and a new walkthrough video from GameSpot gives gamers an idea of what to expect from some of the more advanced classes.

So, the video doesn't just center on using the crossbow class, it also features lancers on horseback who don't stay on horseback for very long. The game looks very punishing and obviously has a steeper learning curve than typical MOFPS games such as Combat Arms, Arctic Combat or Call of Duty.

The most impressive part about the video, though, is how badly the crossbowman fails at trying to quick-shoot and pinpoint targets without actually applying much skill. In other words, the walkthrough showing the failed crossbowman showcases that the game requires more than quick-scoping tactics in order to be effective at long range combat. Check it out below.



That's some good stuff right there. I like the idea that just because you're long range doesn't necessitate that you're going to be the most deadly class on the field. I imagine bowman will probably have to keep to the wooded areas and mostly out of sight whenever possible in order to make precision shots without being spotted. This could make for some very fascinating gameplay.

The overall feel of War of the Roses seems to be more like a grittier version of Mount & Blade, and fans of M&B will probably be drawn towards Fatshark's title for that reason alone. I like the the little mini-games for reloading the crossbow, it definitely makes it where you won't be seeing the bolts fly by as fast as Assassin's Creed.
