An Atari classic has returned from the backlogs of history to entertain gamers once more as Warlords makes its way to the PlayStation Network.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that the vast majority of our readers have never played the original Warlords. Don’t worry, I’m in that camp, too.
An Atari arcade game from the 80s, Warlords is a head-to-head brick-breaking battle game. Players controlled paddles that could be moved in a 90-degree pattern across one corner of the screen. In said corner was a fortress of bricks, and at the heart of that fortress was a flag (At least it sort of looked like a flag, anyway). The object of the game was to keep an ever-bouncing ball from hitting your own fortress enough times to make it to the flag while firing the ball back at your opponents in an attempt to break down their fortress instead. Up to four players could compete in this game that tested even the sharpest of reflexes.
It turns out that good gameplay ideas never go out of style, and so Atari has brought back Warlords bigger and better than ever.
Warlords for the PlayStation Network has been rebuilt from the ground up. While the same basic gameplay remains intact, new 3D graphics, play modes, power-ups, etc. look to catapult the 30-year-old formula into the modern generation. You can still compete in 1v1, 2v2 or free-for-all matches, now in local and online modes.
