Johnny Depp. Talented, captivating, aristocrat.

Arguably one of the most talented actors working today, Johnny Depp is also one of the most annoying. Depp refuses to appear in any film which might be a success, preferring instead to make art films, filled with wondrous performances that are hampered only by the fact that almost no one bothers to see them.

Depp, like many actors, views himself as a some sort of godlike artist. He prances about the world, looking down his nose at the "common folk" viewing himself so far above them, that he refuses to even consider living and participating in their world. Making no secret of his disdain for America, and the American public, Depp isolates himself from popular culture… and popular films.

Why? He thinks he's special. Yes, he's talented. Certainly a highly skilled and amazing actor. But that doesn't mean he knows more than everyone else in the world. Wake up call Johnny boy, you don't need to be a genius to be an actor. The truth is that good acting is more gut instinct than actual learned knowledge. Thus being a great actor doesn't mean that you are the high and mighty authority on what's good and what's not.

Depp may jet set around looking down his nose at what the masses of the world enjoy, He may turn down film after film, simply out of fear that it might be to "popular". He can keep making his artsy fartsy films, and refusing to know or participate in the industry which puts bread on his table… but that doesn't mean he knows a damn thing. Maybe somebody ought to tell him?

If a scientist refuses to be part of the scientific community, refuses to communicate with his peers, or even know who his peers are… how can he be a success? If a policeman refuses to associate with his fellow officers, keep up to date with police policy, be involved in his PROFESSION, how can he be the best? How does he even know if he is the best? But that's just it. Depp doesn't care. He doesn't care about his fans, he doesn't care about his peers, he just plain doesn't care. Interview after interview ole Johnny boy loudly declares his ignorance of Hollywood doings, and proudly proclaims himself above the common man. The truth is, he doesn't care about the world around him because he's busy worrying about himself.

There are thousands of little Johnny Depps out there, famous or not running around looking down their noses at you. Don't listen to them. They don't know a damn thing. Like what you like and let em rot.
