About the Mouse
Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald... ah those lovable Disney characters. But there is more to the Walt Disney Company than kiddie cartoons. Time and again the Hobbit has been forced to sit by and listen to know it all wannabe film buffs whining about the mouse. They diss Disney because of their family oriented image, because they feel that Disney is to establishment. Mindless prattle for the masses, sensationalized over emotionalism they call it. Somewhere along the way, people have gotten the idea that just because its Disney, home of the talking rodent, they can't do anything but whitewashed, watered down, family blah. Well I'm here to tell you there is more to Disney than Benji the lovable dog. Sure they put out a lot of empty, soulless family crap, but what studio doesn't? That doesn't mean they can't hit a homerun with a REAL film once in awhile. This week the Film Hobbit saw and reviewed Remember the Titans, a film which is easily one of the best of the year. But because it's PG and because it is Disney, its not getting much credit. Time after time, the Hobbit has read review after review, comment after comment, all of which say in effect "It was great, one of the better films of the year" I have yet to hear a single negative thing about the film. Yet, I also have yet to see a reviewer give it better than a B. Perhaps this is why the Hobbit doesn't go in for those munchy ratings systems on his site. The review should speak for itself after all. To many reviewers
are worried about trying to seem "edgy" and "with it"
and as such are literally afraid to admit a PG Disney movie is actually
high quality filmmaking. Well their job is to review movies, not look
cool, how about they start doing it. |
