12 Days Of Christmas: Cyndi Lauper's Early Christmas Morning
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
Cyndi Lauper’s Early Christmas Morning

Cyndi Lauper is my favorite female solo artist of all time. Go ahead and snicker if you want. It’s true. She possesses everything I look for in chick pop stars: an octave-bending set of vocal cords, a completely unique sense of fashion, and a body I’d do dirty things to. She also wrote an entire track dedicated to female masturbation and frequently performs at charity events benefitting the victims of hate crimes. Could it really get any better? Yes. The eccentric former MTV-staple loves Christmas.

Released in 1998, Cyndi’s ode to Santa, entitled Merry Christmas...Have A Nice Life, is chock-full of old favorites, but the album’s one and only single “Early Christmas Morning” stands above the rest. There’s just some subtle facet to her voice which draws me in. I can’t put my finger on it, but she, truly does sound So Unusual. Like one of Homer’s sirens with an 80s makeover, Cyndi Lauper sings atop the jagged rocks, and I can’t help but jump into the shark-infested waters and swim toward the pleasing notes.

Perhaps more than any other song featured in our 12 Days Of Christmas, “Early Christmas Morning” reminds me of childhood. Even to this day, my mother shoves this track down my throat whenever I return home. With so many listens, I probably should be sick of Cyndi already, but it still makes me smile every single time.
