On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... Charlie Brown's Christmas Time Is Here
If there is one indication of this holiday season approaching, it’s the first and only airing of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special on ABC. Though by now, due to years of low ratings, you get only one shot at catching the barely advertised showing just days after Thanksgiving, but you still always find people – adults and children – who look forward to this movie more than any other (only A Christmas Story rivals it for me).
The only thing more adorable than the movie itself is the soundtrack of course, which I proudly own and will play during say, a heat wave in the middle of June (though I forsake cuddling up to a warm blanket in my sweats with hot cocoa.) Though a firm and devout hater of Christmas songs – you try working a crazed mall for three seasons of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” drilled into your head every day for a month straight - “Christmas Time Is Here” is always a song that warms my heart during this time of year. This, of course, despite the fact that much like Charlie Brown, I have my own issues with the commercialization of a holiday that’s plagued with pagan traditions and doesn’t actually fall on Christ’s actual birthday anyway – but we’ll save that controversy.
