You’ve probably never heard of Ian Curtis, and that is a damn shame. The eccentric Englishman was the founder and lead singer of Joy Division (that band that wrote “Love Will Tear Us Apart”), and his work had a direct and dramatic effect on Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, U2, and even The Cure.
