Pearl Jam is a lot like AC/DC. They’re revered by some, enjoyed by most, and vehemently disliked by others. At this point in their career, they’ve put out enough material in roughly the same basic format (heavy guitar/ inaudible, cryptic lyrics) that you probably know already whether you’ll purchase this compact disc ... read more |

A few hundred movie buffs received the shock of a lifetime earlier this week when Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder showed up to an Into The Wild screening and played an entire solo set. All seem to have been pleased by the impromptu jam session, except for that one friend who decided not to go at the last minute because “films about climbing are gay.” Gay indeed ... read more |

You probably recognize that name as the top biller for several festivals this year, which was met by several collective internet outcries of What the fuck? ... read more |

My esteemed editor’s “Mixtape Madness” article focusing on cover songs got me to thinking, “would I really want to go on a road trip if Mack brought that mixtape?” I mean sure, there are plenty of good covers on his tape, and really, when you’re putting together a list of covers, it’s hard to go wrong. ... read more |

A few months ago, I was driving home from my cottage on a late summer day when I heard a song that desperately made me want to turn my car around and head straight back to the Muskokan wilderness. I immediately distinguished the singer as Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, but it didn’t sound like PJ -- save for their memorable version of “Last Kiss.” I soon discovered that it was a cover of a tune called “Hard Sun” ... read more |

For a near half decade period in the early 1990s, a pre-fabricated genre cleverly coined Grunge was sitting atop both the musical and fashion apexes of American society. Within a matter of months, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and several other prolific bands from the Northeast had supplanted Poison and friends as the epitome of cool. Suddenly, sadness was in. Spandex was replaced by ill-fitting flannel, and “Nothin But A Good Time” was shelved in favor of “Rape Me” ... read more |
