What’s there to do on a beautiful May Sunday when the sunshine gleams, the NBA playoffs are in full swing (go Jazz!) and there’s absolutely nothing in the music world to cover? We at CB Music, of course, will fill the dead air by whoring ourselves out to the American Idol constituency. I know I feel good about it.
Kelly Clarkson, the most legit thing to come out of the A.I. phenomenon, is back with a new single called “Never Again.” This rocky number reveals a fresh side of Clarkson, one which is more anger-ridden, edgy and raw. And I have to say, it’s kind of hot.
The song, about a nasty breakup with a boyfriend who's already moving on with someone else, harkens back to Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know,” only there’s no “Would she go down on you in a theater?” anecdote. It’s pretty tame by comparison, but I can see the girl slowly but surely evolving her range and, ultimately, her career.
Let’s face it, they really hit it out of the park on the first season of the proverbial contest with Clarkson, so much so, in fact, they should now call the show Kelly Clarkson Was Here instead of American Idol.
