According to Billboard.com, clothing company American Eagle Outfitters has enlisted Anthony Kiedis to oversee the inaugural New American Music Union festival, to be held August 8-9 at SouthSide Works in Pittsburgh. The Chili Peppers frontman recruited a devastatingly phenomenal lineup for the festival: Bob Dylan, the Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, the Roots, the Black Keys, oh, and some college bands.
Not to sound like a spoiled brat on Christmas, but what brought about this wet dream lineup? According to Kiedis: “The thrill of seeing Bob Dylan next to the Raconteurs next to Gnarls Barkley next to the Roots is reason for us all to celebrate. Music is still the most inspiring creative force that I know of and this seemed like a prime opportunity to let it shine." Day-umm.
In addition to a total immersion in this eclectic orgy of inspiring creative force, further inspiration will be offered in the form of 15 college bands from around the country performing at the festival. These bands will compete in a battle of the bands entirely unlike the ones you attended in high school. Not only are none of the bands named Tasty Waves or Murder the Masses, but music industry executives, journalists and other musicians will do the judging as opposed to giddy cheerleaders hammered from too much Smirnoff Ice. The best band wins a full-day recording session in a Los Angeles studio and promotion on American Eagle’s website and in its stores, including a loyal fan base groomed in a lemming mentality that will think the champion band is totally, like, the new Vampire Weekend but, like, better.
