For much of the past year, Britney Spears life has been the sort of ongoing trainwreck that could be described as a “circus.”
So it is only appropriate, coming off of her “comeback win” at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, that Britney’s new album will in fact, be called Circus.
Jive Records will release the album on December 2, which happens to coincide with the singer’s 27th birthday. First single will be “Womanizer,” a track produced by the Outsyders. Several other contributors have been confirmed for the project including Dr. Luke, (who wrote and produced the title cut), Danja, Guy Sigsworth, Max Martin and Bloodshy & Avant.
With the release of Circus, Britney hopes to complete the comeback and public makeover which began with her three award sweep at the VMAs. The triumphant return to the VMA stage capped a long, often bizarre year which began with a disastrous performance at the 2007 awards show, and went on become the sort of real life circus that kept the tabloids and the papparazi following her every move looking to document the next public meltdown.
Britney’s last album, 2007’s Blackout was widely viewed as a commercial disappointment, although it did sell a quite respectable 800,000 plus copies. Circus arrives in stores December 2. Let the games begin.
