Sure she’s getting her act together by hanging out with her dad, no longer running red lights with count-appointed monitors in the car, and minor personal achievements like actually showing up in court when you’re directly involved in a major custody battle. It seems too soon to tell, however, if the pop star, once beleaguered with a reported bi-polar disorder and creepy Middle Eastern managers, has finally taken herself down a notch, or four. MTV seems to think so. Despite last year’s disastrous attempt at a performance comeback, the music news network is letting her onto the Video Music Awards stage again. Careful not to let her perform, but still promising an appearance from the tumultuous singer, MTV.com announced today that the pop princess, whose “Piece of Me” video is up for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year, “will be opening the show.” No word on what exactly entails “opening the show” since the past 25 years of VMA history usually includes, you guessed it, a performance. Spears herself didn’t give much of a clue either saying in a statement that she was “excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated." Let’s only hope this is a step up from her black sequence underwear stage costume.
