Britney's Sister Pregnant At 16

As the old adage says: you can take the girl out of the trailer park but you can’t take the trailer park out of the girl. In a move that makes older sis Britney look responsible, Jamie-Lynn Spears is pregnant at the ripe age of 16. The high school junior confirmed her pregnancy, now 12 weeks along, in a 6-page interview with OK!magazine. The father is Casey Aldridge, whom Spears has been dating for a few years, though as late as November she denied having a boyfriend. The pair met at church (so much for abstinence only education). Whether or not the great state of Louisiana will charge Aldridge with breaking the state’s age of consent law remains to be seen, but Mama Lynn Spears’ book for Christian publisher Thomas Nelson on parenting child stars Jamie-Lynn and Britney will be delayed indefinitely according to People Magazine.

Spears the Younger gained fame with the tween set as the star of Nickelodeon after-school show Zoey 101 which follows the misadventures of the titular character at the fictitious Pacific Coast Academy. When asked what kind of message her pregnancy will send to young fans, Spears affirmed that it was “better to wait” but that “I can’t be judgmental because it’s a position I put myself in.” Spears expresses the desire to raise the child in her native Lousiana so “it can have a normal life”. Sounds good to me, since both she and Britney have benefited so much from a Louisiana upbringing.

Nickelodeon has announced that Spears’ pregnancy will not affect the high rated show and new episodes will run through 2008. Spears tells OK! that she has the support of her mother, but whether Nickelodeon is likewise pleased by the announcement is dubious, as revealed in the strained wording of their press release about the situation:

We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well-being.

Yeah, I’m so sure. Nickelodeon makes it sound like Jamie-Lynn has contracted leprosy, which, in terms of the image projected by the youth channel, is pretty much the case . Well, there goes the Spears’ second cash cow. Better start socking away the money now, Mama Lynn, because the way things are going, you’re going to have more mouths to feed than a fundamentalist Mormon in about 10 years.
