If ever that was a cause worth getting all cheesy over, it’s December 25th and Santa and decorative lights and reindeer and all that festive nonsense. Selling out doesn’t even apply when it comes to musicians recording Christmas albums. Metallica, Slayer, and Pantera could form a supergroup and play a cover of “Jingle Bell Rock”, and they wouldn’t lose an ounce of credibility, at least from me. Getting jiggy with old Christmasy favorites just proves the singer has a heart. Besides, if there’s ever been a performer who walked the walk and talked the talk, it was Frank Sinatra, and Old Blue Eyes loved himself some snow.
That’s why when most people would call it an appalling, egregious, ridiculous, blasphemous sellout, I’m going to go ahead and endorse Sheryl Crow’s new album. According to Billboard, Sheryl Crow has partnered with Hallmark (those assholes who steal a dollar eighty-seven from you every few weeks) to release a Christmas album tentatively due in September and available exclusively through Gold Crown stores.
I’m not sure whether this disc will be a collection of covers or new holiday-themed material, but either way, I’ll be picking it up. You just can’t go wrong with festive cheer.
