More groundbreaking changes ending music business as we know it, or is it just Friday? Sony BMG, one-quarter owner of the world’s major record labels announced that it has replaced head honcho Clive Davis with Zoomba Label head Barry Weiss who oversaw the success of teen pop label Jive.

Davis was given the new role of chief creative officer of the company where it is maintained that he will still work with major artists he’s helped skyrocket to fame. Sony BMG blankets Arista, Epic, LaFace and Columbia Records among others. No word yet on whether this was a mutual shakeup or Davis was forced out as the recording industry has been slashing jobs left and right as a result of billions of dollars lost since digital music became available.

Weiss has some gargantuan shoes to fill as Davis has a hand in shaping some of music’s biggest names ranging from Whitney Houston to The Grateful Dead including the more recent successes of American Idol alums Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, just to name a few.
