Performers often recite the cliché “the show must go on” and sometimes they really mean it. The most recent case-in-point involves the death of Mick Jagger’s 93 year-old father Joe Jagger this past Saturday in Britain. And although it's the kind of thing that makes a grown man cry, the Stones continued their show in Las Vegas that night.
As MSNBC reports, The Stones are on their A Bigger Bang tour and a spokesperson said that the shows will go ahead as planned. Mick flew to Britain for one last visit with his father on Friday, and then flew back to Las Vegas later that day. The spokesperson also relayed that details on Joe’s death and all funeral arrangements will remain private, and the Jagger family would make no further comments.
The Rolling Stones front man/rock legend is handling his loss with class and dignity. He’s probably continuing with his tour dates because he knows that’s what his dad would have wanted. Keep in mind, he is now an orphan, as his mother Eva died in 2000, so this should be an especially emotional tour for him. Hopefully the latest news won't impede on them too dramatically, so Mick can go on kicking ass, as always.

Hey, people work all the time when their parents die and everyone handles it in different ways. It was his father and I'm sure he knew him best. Rock On.
I saw the show in Vegas on Saturday (my 23rd of this tour), and Mick took his pain and grief and poured all of that emotion into the most amazing show I've ever seen. The best Midnight Rambler ever. The Stones rocked very hard that night. I'm pretty sure that one was for Joe Jagger. A spectacular show from the World's Greatest Rock n' Roll Band.
MOST FOLKS KNEW OF JOE JAGGERS PASSING BEFORE THE CONCERT 11-11-06. THE STONES WENT ON STAGE AS PLANNED. THIS WAS PROPBALY THE BEST CONCERT THE STONES HAVE EVER PERFORMED. POOR MICK. NEVER SANG BETTER. PLAYED A FEW VERY OLD SONGS, MAYBE FROM 1ST ALBUM EVER. I AM SURE THAT WAS A LOT OF CENTIMENT THAT WENT INTO THAT. GOD BLESS JOE JAGUER AND GOD BLESS THE ROLLING STONES
Wasn't there, but sure wish I had been. The Stones are at one and the same time the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band and decent guys with personal lives, like everyone else. I was touched by Mick's selflessness when Charlie Watts' throat cancer came up. Mick said that the Stones will stop touring when Charlie decides he doesn't want to head out on the road anymore (which he's done... Charlie's asked Keith that this be the last extended tour because he doesn't have the stamina anymore). Mick said that the Stones could survive losing him, but would never survive losing Charlie. Quite a lot of generosity of spirit in that comment. And good for old Joe for making Mick a physical fitness freak early in life... the onstage resilience can be traced back to him.
