Initial plans for New Jersey's Vineland Music Festival in August are already being set in motion, but it doesn’t go without a few barricades in the form of local residents. Festival promoters - who have the likes of Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and Austin City Limits under their professional belts - have submitted a first draft of their ”master plan” for the festival, which will be reviewed January 17.
Some residents are said to be upset there is a plan to plop 30,000 music fans in their hometown of mostly rural farmland and are planning to take action against festival planners. One thing promoters are not taking into consideration apparently is the supposed outbreak of violence that could erupt in the town just minutes outside of Philadelphia. "We have gangs here in Vineland. Are they going to come to the festival to try and compete with the people there? It's possible," said one local at a recent council meeting who is opposing the festival. Hey, I wonder if you’re doing anything about the local gang problem before you start barring something cool actually happening here. "We won't be able to leave our homes that whole weekend because of both the traffic and safety issues," the local continued. Welcome to my life of living a quarter-mile away from the state’s largest shopping mall, pal! |
