EMI To Release Radiohead Hit PackageAuthor: Mack Rawden

The battle between Radiohead and their former label EMI continues to rage. The avant-garde alternative musicians recently traded in the rigid structure of major label music distributing for the mellow, pay whatever you want vibes of internet downloading, but much to Thom Yorke’s chagrin, EMI still claims the right to repackage any of their old discs. How sad. I’m sure these copywrite issues aren’t a laughing matter for Radiohead, but the thought of Tom Yorke having no say in what songs go in his own greatest hits disc makes me chortle.
According to NME, EMI will release a Radiohead greatest hits disc to correspond with the band’s upcoming summer tour. Why? I realize the group is still a money-making juggernaut, but outside of “Creep” and maybe “Karma Police”, they don’t really have any hits, just a handful of entire albums people seem to love. Still, this project seems to have been given the green light; so, look for a spiffy new disc in late April or early May. |
