England's Top 10 Karaoke Songs Of The Year

What the hell is going on in Great Britain? I know the English have some different sensibilities than Americans, but this is just nonsensical. The Top 10 Karaoke songs of the year were released this morning, and Robbie Williams’ 1997 smash hit “Angels” crooned its way to number one, followed closely by Amy Winehouse and The Zutons’ track “Valerie.”

According to NME, more conventional choices followed with ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” finishing third and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” fourth. I’m not really the world’s biggest karaoke supporter myself, but I’m shocked Elton John didn’t fare better. At least a quarter of the songs he wrote seem to be perfectly geared toward karaoke: slowish intro accompanied by well-known lyrics which build toward a singable chorus. I guess I just have different tastes. On the bright side, Elvis Presley gyrated his way into the Top 10 twice. Here’s the full list…
