The long-standing, popular Farm Aid concert series is heading over to the Big Apple this fall.
According to E! Online, Farm Aid, which began in 1985 as a way to raise money for ailing family farms, will take place Sept. 9 at Randall’s Island. It marks the first time in 22 years that it will emerge in New York City; last year, it was held in New Jersey.
The complete lineup will not be available for a few weeks, but you can expect, as always, an appearance by co-founders Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young, as well as Dave Matthews.
"The city strongly supports sustainable family farming through our Greemarket program--which has nearly doubled its locations over the past five years--and it's an honor to be hosting [Farm Aid] for their 2007 concert," Mayor Bloomberg said.
This year's festival, which includes a variety of roots, rock, reggae and country music, will “highlight the advantages of growing organic foods, developing more efficient energy sources and using more sustainable practices to reinvigorate America's farmers,” as stated by E! Online.
While New York might not be the most obvious choice for a gathering on farming, the struggling farmers can certainly benefit from the help of high-spending city dwellers. And they just might score some good tunes and produce out of it.
Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster starting Saturday, June 16.
