The Battle of the Bands isn’t a new phenomenon. In fact, the majority of festivals have a hodgepodge lineup of famous faces and fresh unknowns. Warped Tour more often than not has an entire stage devoted to groups without a major label, but the much-discussed Glastonbury Festival has decided to hold a competition allowing bands to upload two songs to be judged by a panel of music experts including Michael Eavis and journalists from Q Magazine. The winner will get a once in a lifetime slot on the main stage.
According to The BBC, the public will also be able to weigh in for the first time in the competition’s history, selecting one wild card who will get a spot on an alternate stage. The deadline is January 26th; so, get those demo tapes updated and put on your computer. This could be your door to fortune and fame. It could also a miserable experience of booing and broken bottles. Try to think optimistically.
Readers in the United Kingdom are no doubt familiar with Glastonbury, but for the Americans, you may remember Glastonbury as the festival Jay-Z played “Wonderwall” at after a highly publicized feud with Oasis.
