MTV gives trashy, bubblegum pop-loving fans their kicks. VH1 caters to the easy-listening crowd who use music as a tool for relaxation. GAC is the homeland for nostalgic rednecks, those goofy rubes who spend their days fishin’ down by the river and muddin’ in the unplowed corn fields. BET, well, we all know why BET exists. We all fit our stereotypes, unfortunately, there is not always a music loving, video playing television station to cater to our whims. With the advent of a new national music channel, however, television has moved one step closer. What is this station of mystery? Well…
It’s popular, it’s religious. It’s music beamed down straight from heaven and tuned into more than 40 million Jesus-loving homes. It’s initials? Well, GMC for Gospel Music Channel, of course. Already available in many Christian homes, gospelmusicchannel.com has announced today that a partnership has formed between GMC and Direct TV, Inc. This partnership stipulates, “beginning March 19, GMC will be available to DIRECTV customers nationally on channel 338. “
Tony Berlin, a vice president for DIRECTV, vaguely outlined plans regarding the function of the station, stating "We believe that GMC's positive and entertaining music television will deliver quality, inspirational and family-friendly programming, which will resonate with our customers."
What stoic conservatism. It seems DIRECTV is ready to become a stereotype-fulfilling superhero. Look out, ladies and gentleman; it’s not a bird; it’s not a plane; it’s a satellite, and it’s out to save the world...or at least keep the world from harboring liberal sentiments.
