Affable bigen Ruben Studdard may have been unceremoniously axed by his record company, but he’s still being taken care of by American Idol producers. Executives behind the most popular show on television have given him the coveted responsibility of recording the sad montage theme which accompanies the highlight videos for each voted off contestant. Fitting, considering relevancy sent the big man his walking papers years ago.
According to Billboard, Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day”, the previous selection, was the top digital download for 2006. All this means one more big check could be in Studdard’s future. Cinema Blend was unable to obtain copies of Ruben’s financial records by press time, but I’m fairly certain this bit of good fortune will go a long way in paying his mortgage.
The song, a cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home”, will be recorded by famed producing duo Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam. You can look for it in a few weeks when the show whittles the contestants down from sixteen to twelve.
