Don’t you love how documents get declassified and stories come out fifty, even a hundred years after the fact? This one isn’t quite that old, but it’s still worth reporting to amaze at how far many countries have come in thirty years. The Sex Pistols reportedly caused such a stir in Ireland’s panties back in the day the government held meetings to find ways in which they could ban Never Mind The Bollocks.
Included among the possible tactics was a proposed fine to any record store found to be carrying the Sex Pistols’ music. According to NME, the uproar reportedly occurred after the town fathers or whatever the hell Ireland’s government was called at the time decided the group could deteriorate long-held Catholic morals. Yeah, those Irish. They have a long history of being on their best behavior at all times.
All of this nonsense blew over, though, once Virgin records was cleared of a similar charge in England.
