In a move that surely speaks to the man’s generosity, Kanye West has teamed up with MTV to create a documentary style series in hopes that they can help as many Afghanistan and Iraq War veterans as possible. The “Choose or Lose” campaign is a creation of MTV. The intention is to bring the issues of America to the attention of its young masses. “Choose or Lose: Homecoming” is the next installment of the series. The goal is to venture into the lives and tell the stories of war veterans and the problems that greet them when they return from war.
MTV VJ Sway Calloway and the high-school dropout himself, Kanye West, surprise veterans returning from war with personal visits. They don’t stop with just a casual sit-down to tea, however. Calloway and West show their respect and dedication to these veterans by giving them a gift. These special tokens of appreciation range from having the veterans’ debts paid off to having college tuition being funded—this being a direct donation from MTV’s Dr. Donda West Foundation (a foundation started after the death of Kanye’s mother, Dr. Donda West).
Says West of his recent undertaking with MTV, “I teamed up with MTV and took the opportunity to share the spotlight with these veterans and hear their stories. I went to their homes to listen and get their firsthand experiences. I wanted to hear their stories.” There’s most certainly something to be said about a man who’s last biggest hit was a song called “Gold Digger” when he goes into his own family jewels to help those who otherwise would barely be able to help themselves. You gotta love America and the celebrities that make it run.
