Acclaimed Beatles engineer Norman Smith has passed away. Dubbed Norman Normal by John Lennon, the studio hand worked on every Beatles album up to Rubber Soul and later found pop music success himself under the alias Hurricane Smith. Perhaps most famously, he presided over the first ever Fab Four recording at Abbey Road Studios in George Martin’s absence.
According to NME, Smith passed away on March 3rd from being real fuckin’ old disease. After his work with Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, he went on to sign Pink Floyd and produce their first three albums, yet another pretty impressive contribution to the history of music. Cinema Blend sends out our thoughts and prayers to both Norman’s family and all those touched by his legendary kindness. He will be missed.
Go grab your copy of Rubber Soul and put it on. Everything would sound differently without Norman. That's an impressive legacy.
