Live Earth '08 Announced, Makes You Vote

“Douche” may be the name of the cloud permanently hunkered over Al Gore’s head for infamously insinuating to have invented the Internet, but the former Vice President can at least properly attest to organizing go-green event Live Earth. The daylong world-wide festival produced its first concert on every continent - even Antarctica - cohesively on 7/7/07, eager to get music fans to think green and take care of our mother earth.

From a first-hand account, I can tell you they did a great job of this at one U.S. version where trash was strewn all over New Jersey’s Giants Stadium parking lot throughout the day and the fuel being burned by the 12,000 cars, trucks and SUV’s leaving the venue that evening were, I’m sure, very, very helpful to the environment. But hey, anything for The Police.

Though the environmentally conscious moniker hasn’t changed, this year’s October 5 Live Earth shows sees purpose change dramatically focusing instead on an effort to encourage people to vote in the upcoming presidential election. Instead of major stadiums, this year’s event will take place on various U.S. college campuses and promises that each Democratic and Republican schmuck, I mean, nominee chosen by then will speak on the issue of going green since organizers feel it has been absent from presidential debates. But so has all hope. I don’t see any concerts being put together for that.
