Lou Reed Keynote Speaker for SXSW
One of the U.S.’s most prominent music festivals is gearing up for another great year and just announced its star guest.

According to Billboard.com and Reuters, Lou Reed will be the keynote speaker for the annual South by Southwest Music Conference, which kicks off in Austin, Texas, on March 13 and runs through March 16. The rocker will discuss his career during the opening session at the Austin Convention Center.

SXSW is a combination of interactive, film and music festivals and conferences that are held every spring in Austin. Beginning as the Austin Battle of the Bands, SXSW officially started in 1987. With more than 1,400 performers playing dozens of venues all over Austin, it is one of the largest music festivals in the U.S.

Also confirmed to speak at this year’s SXSW are composer Steve Reich and Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore, Hall & Oates principal Daryl Hall and Sire Records founder Seymour Stein. The early performer lineup includes My Morning Jacket, Daniel Lanois, Mala Rodriguez and Dokkebi Q.
