We’ve watched Mandy Moore evolve from a little girl singing “Candy” to an older girl singing, well, “I Wanna Be With You.” OK, so her evolution thus far hasn’t exactly been mind-blowing, but she is hoping to change all that when Wild Hope hits stores June 19.
According to Billboard, she’s hoping the new album, which marks the first time the now-brunette singer has co-written her own songs, will put her in a new, more mature light. "It's just fun to finally be singing my own music and have the band up there. It's a completely different experience," she says.
Moore is also keeping her eye on the road, a place in which she hopes to spend a lot of time this coming fall. "This record doesn't lend itself to doing an arena tour," she admits, "so I want to stick to smaller rooms and clubs and just make it more intimate and about the music and some nice banter in-between the songs. Just something fun and low-key."
So that does mean songs such as “Candy” will not make an appearance? Not so fast. We have this, like, Stones-y version of it, and that's kind of fun to do, so maybe we'll incorporate that into the set."
Moore has established a pretty solid acting career for herself, with appearances ranging from Vince’s ex-girlfriend on Entourage to an ‘American Idol’ wannabe in American Dreamz. However, she’s never really been able to transcend her musical appeal from the teenybopper, Wet Seal-wearing crowd to a more adult demographic. We’ll find out if such a task is possible in the coming weeks.
