Marianne Faithfull Keeps The Faith

published: 2006-09-15 00:00:00
Singer Marianne Faithful has been dealt a grueling blow: the wild singer/ex-girlfriend of Mick Jagger has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The ugly turn of events have caused her to cancel her world tour, but she is not going to let a little thing like cancer get the best of her. “I will be well again, if not better than ever,” she promises.

According to The Guardian, the 59-year-old singer has surpassed drug and alcohol addiction and even a period living on the streets, so she has a good chance of rising above this, too. Doctors said the cancer was in its earliest stages, and her rep believes the prognosis is promising. "Indeed Marianne Faithfull is looking forward to playing the rescheduled tour in 2007."

Her cancelled three-month tour, originally kicking off next month, was going to include shows in Canada, Europe, and the United States. While it’s currently on the back-burner, Faithfull says, "Next year's tour, I want to assure fans, will be one big celebration."

Marianne, known by some as the ‘original English rock chick,’ has several hit records including As Time Goes By and The Ballad of Lucy Jordan. She has been making sweet music on and off for over 40 years. Best of luck to her for a quick recovery.
