One thing I’ve always loved about live concerts is the possibility of off-chance surprises. Guest collaborations, songs you never thought you’d hear, maybe catching a quasi-celebrity up in the balcony. One select group of Raconteurs fans in Detroit were lucky enough to bear witness to one surprise showgoers across the country have been hoping for – an apperance by Meg White. Gracing the stage in front of a hometown crowd, Jack and Meg White briefly reunited for the first time since acute anxiety forced Meg off of the last leg of the White Stripes tour last fall.
“Hey Everybody – this is Meg White,” Jack shouted to an anxious crowd awaiting a possible White Stripes performance. Meg, however chose only to tap a few off-key notes on Raconteurs drummer Patrick Keeler’s set, then abruptly wave goodbye. Shortly thereafter, she was replaced with the remaining Raconteurs members for their encore of the night. Meg’s first formal concert apperance gives White Stripes fans some hope for a proper reunion in addition to the band promising new material since November. Hopefully Meg will feel up to par soon. I say -- load up on the Xanax honey, we really miss you.
