Metallica Announce Fall U.S. Death Magnetic Tour DatesAuthor: Glen Boyd

Over the weekend Metallica members Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett participated in a tribute to fallen Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott at Ozzfest, held this year in Abbott’s native Texas. They were joined at various times by members of Slayer, Anthrax, and Alice In Chains among other groups paying tribute. Metallica also debuted a new song, “Cyanide” in their own Ozzfest set. The fall tour marks Metallica’s return to American arenas, after seeming to favor the festival circuit for the past several years. The band has played extensively in Europe, as well as a select handful of the bigger summer festivals in America. Opening acts for the 32 U.S. shows will include Sword, Lamb of God, Down and Machine Head. "It's our first full indoor tour in America," guitarist Kirk Hammett told MTV News. "For the last three or four summers, we've been going over to Europe and doing all the festivals, and it looks like we just totally ignored our fans in America, but that's not the case. As a consequence, the American fans miss us, and they want their Metallica, so this will be a good homecoming for them and us."
