Metallica Rock Like It’s 1987
Short-haired sellouts Metallica appear to finally be listening to their own fan base, partnering with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin to rekindle the edgier, thrash sound which made them famous. Chatting with BBC 6 Music, drummer Lars Ulrich revealed the band’s plan to finish up the disc within the next two months in preparation for a September release.

For months, band members have been making vague statements about a return to their heavier, speed metal roots. Frankly, as long as the new disc is a departure from St. Anger, it’ll be a step in the right direction. Master Of Puppets is arguably the greatest metal album ever released, but starting with Load (maybe even the Black Album) the group has steadily plunged into an abyss of horrid solo-less hard rock.

I prefer to remember the glory days; so, here’s the video for “One.” Hopefully, the new disc draws a little more influence from this gem than their track for Mission Impossible “I Disappear.”
