Michael Jackson 50-Foot Robot Replica In The Works?
All Michael Jackson news has to be taken with a grain of salt. I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about the veracity of the following news item. However, his associates are quoted, so it has to be true. And, truth be told, it sounds pretty great.

According to Yahoo! Music, Michael Jackson is currently in discussions regarding the creation of a 50-foot robotic replica of himself to roam the Las Vegas desert. For some time now there have been negotiations for Jackson to front an elaborate Vegas stage show, one tenant of which would be this giant robot sauntering around the desert, shooting laser beams.

If built, the idea is for the metal monster (Jack-zilla? Mecha-Michael?) to be seen from airplanes flying into McLaren Airport, i.e., the first thing tourists see upon entering the city’s airspace.

Do the people of Vegas really want a gigantic Michael Jackson being the first thing visitors see when entering their fair city?

The robot’s designer, Andre Van Pier, and his partner, Luckman Van Pier (don’t know if those are real names or not), claim blueprints for the robot have been drawn up and shown to the star. Luckman Van Pier told the New York Daily News, “Michael looked at the sketches and likes them … It would be in the desert sands. Laser beams would shoot out of it so it would be the first thing people flying in would see."

Jackson also apparently lives (or spends some time, anyway) in Vegas now, as he considers the city as a staging ground for his comeback from the 2004 child sex case.

Until we all see a prototype, the idea speaks for itself, and there’s little else to say.
