Morrissey Fans Bumrush Stage
In high school, there’s a strict set of unwritten rules for how certain groups should behave. The ‘jocks’ are supposed to get drunk and impregnate the cheerleaders. The ‘stoners’ are advised to spend their weekends smoking pot and listening to Bob Marley, while the ‘nerds’ are forced to congregate in small groups and debate the literary legacy of Flaubert. Most people seem to think these bullshit societal norms only apply to teenagers, but in actuality, expected behavior is prevalent throughout our lives. This concept can most notably be illustrated by examining concert behavior.

When one attends a gig, he likely has an inherent notion of what to expect. If it’s a Metal concert, the crowd will most likely form a mosh pit, creating a full-contact, injury-inducing experience. If the same concert-goer was to purchase tickets to an acoustic singer-songwriter performance, he’d probably brace himself for mellow vibes and plenty of sitting. This stringent policy does not always go according to plan, though. Like a ‘nerd’ pummeling the star quarterback, life doesn’t always follow the routine plan and neither do concerts.

According to NME, ordinarily reserved Morrissey fans bumrushed the stage during last night’s concert in New York. The unexpected display of adoration occurred during the last song of the evening and saw patrons shower the quirky swinger with gifts. How embarrassing must it be for security to be overwhelmed by Morrissey fans? We, Smiths enthusiasts, aren’t always the most aggressive or intimidating people, but if you give us a beautiful effeminate voice, anything can happen. And it did.
