Coldplay's Chris Martin has confirmed rumors that his band will release new music before the end of the year.
Speaking to the BBC 6 Music radio program with host Steve Lamacq and R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Martin said that Coldplay will release an E.P. in December containing new music left over from the sessions with Brian Eno that produced the Viva La Vida CD released earlier this year.
According to Rolling Stone, the E.P., to be titled either Prospects March or Prospects Songs (or “something like that” says Martin) will be out on December 26. Among the new songs expected to be included on the E.P. is “Luna,” a collaboration Coldplay did with Kylie Minogue.
Chris Martin has also indicated that Coldplay is already itching to get back into the studio, and hopes to have another new record out before the end of 2009. The Viva La Vida CD was released in June, and debuted at #1 in several countries, including on the Billboard charts in America. The album continues to sell well, and has been certified platinum. Coldplay is currently touring behind the release, and expect to remain on the road at least through the end of the year.
There has been some speculation that the real reasons Coldplay are talking about potentially three new albums coming out in less than two years, have to do with a means to quickly fulfill the band’s present contractual obligations to Capitol Records.
