It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost four years since Miss Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during the Super Bowl halftime show with Justin Timberlake in 2004. Since then, legendary artists Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones have rocked the stage at halftime, and nearly 140 million Americans watched Prince play this year at the NFL championship.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will attempt to wow football fans again—hopefully sans breast-baring incident—as they play the coveted halftime slot at the Super Bowl in Arizona on Feb. 3, Billboard.com reported.
Petty's performance will mark a rare occasion where the veteran rocker is closely aligned with a corporate sponsor, in this case the North American arm of Japanese tire firm Bridgestone Corp, which has lent its name to the halftime event. The National Football League's annual championship game will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (near Phoenix) and will be televised by Fox.
