Preface: I’m not really sure if this article is satire or brutal honesty or some hastily-thrown together fusion of the two. In the grand scheme of things, it’s just words on a page. I take no solace in that.
United Kingdom mainstays Placebo have announced a partnership with MTV to play an upcoming festival dubbed Exit which seeks to raise awareness about human trafficking. Apparently, we need a goddamn festival to get people on board with the fact that selling human beings is not a decent and moral thing to do. What the fuck year is this? 1861?
The concert will take place on December 7th and feature a wide variety of other acts including The Click Five. Great. This well-orchestrated excuse for everyone to feel good about themselves will solve nothing. Where does it end? Why don’t we organize a few concerts to remind people about 9/11 or maybe that rapists are still out there?
If you like Placebo, show up; if not, throw a few bucks to the Red Cross.
