Most Rock N Roll bands (with the exception of Divo) drip sex appeal. They thrive by inspiring debaucherous and rule-breaking thoughts. Not Cheap Trick. Well, not half of the members of Cheap Trick, anyway. Drummer Bun E. Carlos looks like every disgruntled accountant I have ever seen, and Rick Nielson gives Bill Nye (the science guy) an even nerdier goal to shoot for. Still, their unconventional appearance combined with lead singer Robin Zander’s fierce good looks and Tom Petersson’s slightly above average swagger produced a winning combination.
According to Music-News, this winning combination was honored yesterday with a tribute gig from The Plain White T’s. No offense to Delilah, but if I was Cheap Trick, I would be pissed. Thirty years of service to the music industry and that’s the only band they can come up with! Still, the tribute show was a nice gesture, and it’s good to see Cheap Trick hasn’t yet surrendered.
