Radiohead To Play Coachella -- In New Jersey?

Days away from booking a flight out to California for this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, reports surfaced that I may not have to leave the Garden State after all. The New York Times reports concert promoters AEG may plan to host the country’s largest music festival on the East Coast that could see Radiohead and Jack Johnson headlining.

Sounds great, right? Wrong. It’s rumored to take place during the same August weekend as the Vineland Music Festival in the southern part of the state – that’s if they can sort out that gang problem by then. The East Coast Coachella is slated to take place in Jersey’s City’s Liberty State Park just a few thousand feet from the Statue of Liberty. I suppose someone decided that 2008 is the year New Jersey will to be recognized as more than just a 95-mile-long polluted highway between New York and Philadelphia.

Meanwhile over in Indio, a scant list of performers at the West Coast Coachella was announced by the LA Times yesterday, who promises a full line-up next week (don’t mind the fake poster, but mind it). Portishead, Chromeo, Justice and Death Cab For Cutie are included along with an announcement of a major veteran act to be announced shortly. Talking Heads, much?
