Radiohead To Prince: Unblock Our Own Song

If you caught a glimpse of Prince covering Radiohead’s “Creep” at last month’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival either live or in the following days over the internet, consider yourself lucky. I didn’t – and apparently, neither did Radiohead. The cover was one of the most talked about highlights of the three-day concert, besides a certain uncooperative pig of course, but now comes word that all videos of the performance were taken down. No, not by Radiohead who, you know, wrote the song, but by Prince himself and his record label NRG, citing copyright violations.

Planting a brand new spin on infringement, Billboard reports Thom Yorke is a bit miffed, since the song isn’t Prince’s to begin with. At first the Radiohead singer had a laugh at the news of the cover, then reacted with quite a shock when he learned the label was blocking the song from the blogospheres. "Really? He's blocked it?" Yorke asked. "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our ... song." Damn right, it is. In addition to yanking the videos, Prince also prohibited photographers from taking pictures by the stage, opting instead to have his own camera crew film him. Neither YouTube, Prince or anyone else with proper common sense have commented on the blocking.
