“This is for the people of the sun/it’s coming back around again!” Who could forget the politically esteemed lyrics, funky riffs and hardcore compositions that could have us lost in a dippy frame of consciousness one minute, then contemplating the injustice of worldly matters the next? OK, I sort of forgot, but I remember now.
Rage Against The Machine, which includes the innovatively endowed members of L.A, is coming back to join other headliners at the 2007 Coachella Music and Arts Festival beginning April 27. The L.A Times reports this is the quartet’s first gathering in seven years after breaking up for the same reason every band does—irreconcilable differences.
Joining the Rage reunion at the eighth edition of the festival are the smoking Red Hot Chili Peppers, who headlined in 2003, and the bubbly Bjork, who headlined in 2002. Other diverse acts like Willie Nelson, Interpol, the Roots, the Decembrists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Arcade Fire, Air Tiesto, Manu Chao and Kings of Leon are expected to appear.
As for which day Rage will play, the festival coordinators haven’t figured that out yet, but rest assured they will make a decision sometime this week. Tickets will go on sale Saturday
via Ticketmaster. Three-day passes will go for 250 big bucks, but if you’re looking to go for one day only, single-day passes will also be available.
The excitement around Southern California is rampant for the Rage Against The Machine reunion. Many thirtysomethings will be calling in sick to Kinko’s, Starbucks, Qwest, Petco, Costco, Walmart and any other non-unionized business, in order to revisit their love for rocking, socialist tirades. They will bask in the music’s soulful fury, buzz about it the whole night and then promptly return to work the next morning. This much is clear: It should be one heck of a show.
