Raveonettes Pull The Ol’ Foo Switcharoo

With one half of the band’s lineup benched as bassist/guitarist/singer Sharin Foo is out with an acute case of pregnancy, you’d think the Raveonettes would be down for the count as far as their upcoming tour is concerned. Not so, because the band has found a temporary replacement every bit as rock ‘n’ roll as Sharin herself. In fact, according to NME Wednesday, the replacement is almost every bit as everything as Sharin, since the replacement is Sharin’s sister, Louise Foo. I admit I never saw that coming.

Louise (aka Loui) Foo is definitely the sister of the year for taking it on, but is she the best candidate to stand in for one half of one of the dirtiest, grittiest bands to throw sugar-coated deviantism in your face?

Well for starters, she head honchos the Ohhmarymary art collective responsible for producing the (rather creepy) video for the band’s song “Aly, Walk With Me,” which she herself directed. She has also been a longstanding member of the music scene in the band’s native Copenhagen, Denmark. This, plus the fact that she takes pretty funny promotional photos (see above) undoubtedly make her more than worth fans’ confidence.

The band’s tour will reportedly take them throughout Europe, with one US stop at Pasadena, CA’s Make Music festival.

And since there’s no other place to tell this story, I might as well get if off my chest now – I was exiting a New Year’s party in search of a bathroom in LA’s warehouse district last year when I ran into Sharin, in the flesh, hanging around on the sidewalk outside. I immediately thought to tell her how awesome her band is, but due to the effects of the devil’s juice, alcohol, I called her “Karin” Foo. To her face. Yeah, darlin’, that was me. My apologies once again, and good luck to you and the band.
