It’s not easy to withstand the stamina of writing, recording and touring for three major back-to-back albums over the span of nine years, but if any band is capable, it’s Red Hot Chili Peppers. These guys deserve a break – and that they are getting, as Anthony Kiedis revealed during a Rolling Stone interview Monday.
"Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things,” Kiedis says of the unanimous decision to disband the quartet. “We kind of started in 1999 with the writing and the recording of Californication and we didn't really stop until the tour ended last year. We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run.”
Kiedis and Co. will do more than just breathe and eat. He’s busy hosting the New American Music Festival and remaining band mates Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith are embarking on their own solo music projects. Here’s to a triumphant comeback in 2009. Get hopping on that free music horse.
