STP Sued By Atlantic, From The PacificAuthor: Rema Rahman
published: 2008-06-13 15:03:21
In an almost riveting revival of east coast/west coast tensions, Atlantic says that Weiland and Kretz are attempting to end their stint by using California laws to terminate the contract – even though it was drawn up in New York. STP says it would like to see “significant changes” before it decides to go forward with a new album, of which they specify very little. It seems the band is eager to get things settled outside of court, but if Atlantic goes through with the suit, they assure a good fight. The band, who was surprised by the filing said, “This action is yet another example of the difficulties facing artists in the new music environment, as relationships between artists and their labels fall further and further apart.” And who do they feel sorry for the most? Us, of course. “The ultimate victims will be STP's fans, who will never be able to enjoy a new album from the group." Something tells me us fans are happy to get off this roller coaster of drug abuse, rehab and side projects – most, if not all courtesy of Weiland – and allow their classic time in the spotlight continue to be the highlight of the 1990s.
