That’s why it is hard to tell whether Scott Weiland’s latest solo work, reported Friday by Music-News, is already a nail in STP’s second coffin, or if it’s leftover fallout surrounding the singer’s ejection from supergroup Velvet Revolver. If it’s the latter, everything makes sense – that means it’s the postpartum solo release: the Euphoria Morning to Weiland’s Soundgarden, or the Boggy Depot to his Alice in Chains. That’s all good as far as I’m concerned. But if it’s the former, then the dementors of dread are upon us. If this is Weiland’s way of escaping his band a second time, so soon after their first reunion show, I only pray the group can last until at least the end of June, when my tickets are dated. The album, produced by Steve Albini, is as yet untitled and has no release date. Weiland, quit screwing around, you’re making me all nervous over here. |
