The Cure's Lucky Number 13

The Cure will make good the promise to shell out their as-of-yet-titled 13th studio album, by releasing a single the 13th of each month from now until it’s September 13 release date. How very ironic, morbid and pseudo-goth of you, emo-founding father, Robert Smith.

Each single will be both a digital and physical release, with the first one comin’ atcha May 13. Titled “The Only One” this first single will also include B-side “NY Trip” which will not appear on the group’s double-disc album, their first since a 2004 self-titled effort.

Have you been wondering what Smith thinks about the state of such wordly concepts such as global warming, human trafficking and probably the war? Worry not, for he has promised “songs about relationships, the material world, politics and religion” to accompany the album, originally slated for early 2007. “[The songs are] very upfront and dynamic. People will be surprised how stripped-down and in-your-face the record is,” Smith told Billboard last year.
