In order to seal their spot as opening act on Justice’s first major tour last year, Midnight Juggernauts had to make them dinner. Even they are not sure the up and coming Parisian leather-clad chain-smoking DJ’s favored their vegetable pockets over what they would have preferred – a hearty hunk of meat – but nonetheless, MJ were personally invited on the jaunt through the US and Europe. Garnering buzzworthy praise from the likes of Spin and Rolling Stone early on, this Melbourne-trio has been skimming the surface of the indie-electro movement since Dystopia – which they released themselves - hit the shelves in Australia in late 2007. Despite their distinct new wave, synth-heavy tunes, the band is actually comprised of a singer/guitarist Andy Streetcrimes, keyboardist Vin Vendetta and drummer Daniel Stricker – with no DJ in sight.
Pitch Patrol
For most, this is more of an album review rather than an album preview since little new music out for more than four days slips past the hands of internet-obsessed music fans these days. For those of you not a slave to a monitor, Dystopia will train your acoustic ears to more funktified lullabies and a refreshing performance by musicians who will give you an actual performance and sweat you out on the dancefloor. Try “Shadows” and “Road to Recovery” on for size.
