The Talent Lined Up For Rock Band 2

By Camiele White: 2008-07-15 11:59:16
The Talent Lined Up For Rock Band 2 It seems as though everyone’s getting their fair shot at Rock Band fame. The video game that launched a thousand indie bands is back for a sequel and a second chance for those guitar god wannabes who just couldn’t get passed level three of Guitar Hero.

But let’s not forget those tried and true established bands and artists with a fiendish fetish for allowing game programmers use of their music as bench markers for those who are either novice, intermediate, or masters of their collective musical destinies. Firstly, the long anticipated Guns n’ Roses comeback (indeed, their last studio release was 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident) gets a shout out with the single “Shackler’s Revenge”—a track from their nearly decade long promise for Chinese Democracy. Also in tow with some video game fodder for the kids is Bob Dylan, contributing the track “Tangled Up in Blue”. A surprise to some, especially coming from a man who has lambasted on more than one occasion the music industry, calling it nothing more than “hypocritical rubbish”. (The Times, June 2008) But let’s be honest, any so-called artist who wants to be worth his salt has to have his hand at one of Dylan’s drawling American masterpieces. Another Rock Band cameo appearance goes to the hard rockin’ “ain’t no messin’” with son-of-a-bitches of AC/DC, contributing the track “Let There be Rock”.

With over 500 downlodable songs at the video game playing world’s disposal, this is sure to be one of the most highly anticipated releases of the season. Boasting a playlist that includes Pearl Jam, Motorhead, and Modest Mouse, to name a few, I wouldn’t be surprised if Xbox 360 got a sublime boost in its sales as well as its credibility among gamers (of which I’m a huge proponent, though not a great fan of the Xbox juggernaut.) I’m all a quiver to see if magic can strike twice with the newly budding game franchise, or if Rock Band--like so many new bands, as it were—will meet its maker with a case of the sophomore jinx. We’ll all be watching in September.
