Forget those rumors about Tom Petty flinging his guitar down and calling it a day: The decades-long rocker has no plans of retiring anytime soon. And why should he? Tom and his band, the Heartbreakers, recently earned two Grammy nominations for the popular album Highway Companion, and he says that 2006 was one of the high points of his time as a musician. No career free fallin’ for him.

The inaccurate rumors stemmed from a July article in Rolling Stone, so he wants to clear the air. Petty told the Los Angeles Times, "You never know how things are going to turn out, and I didn't see this year coming…but maybe next year will be even better."

Movie fans also have something to look forward to: Tom and the Heartbreakers will star in a documentary in 2007 directed by Peter Bogdanovich, who calls Petty “an American troubadour in the truest sense of the word.”

There’s a word you don’t hear everyday. Way to go, Tommy Boy.
